Silk allows a weaver to do things wool cannot. The fibre is thin enough to tie far more knots into the same space, so the design can carry detail that would be impossible in wool. It also reflects light directionally — which is why a silk rug appears to change colour completely when you view it from the other end of the room. That shift is not a flaw. It is the single clearest sign you are looking at real silk.

Qom is the undisputed centre of Persian silk weaving, producing pieces of extraordinary fineness, often signed by the master workshop. Kashan has a longer silk history and tends toward more classical, formal compositions. We also carry silk work from Isfahan and Nain, where silk is frequently used for highlights within a wool field.

Living with silk in the UAE

Silk is less hard-wearing than wool, so these pieces belong in formal sitting rooms, bedrooms and majlis areas rather than hallways or under dining tables. Keep them out of direct sunlight, which fades silk faster than wool. In the Emirates, humidity swings between air-conditioned interiors and outdoor air are the main risk — a rug pad and occasional professional cleaning by a specialist who handles silk are worth the cost.
