This handwoven rug with a Mihrab design reflects the taste, delicacy, and artistic roots of the people of Tabriz. With a count of 55 in fine weaving, it falls into the fine-weave category—each knot attesting to uncompromising precision and admirable patience. The dimensions are 100 × 145 cm (3'3" × 4'9"), with an area of 1.45 m² (15.61 ft²); a piece rich in visual and conceptual detail. The warp is cotton and the pile is soft wool, chosen to ensure both strength and a pleasant, supple handle. The place of weaving is Tabriz—a city long regarded in Iran’s artistic memory as the cradle of authentic urban carpet weaving and a center of refinement and innovation in design. The weaving density is about 6,200 knots/dm². In this work, the mihrab layout—rooted in Islamic architecture—is presented free of exaggeration, with a sense of elevated simplicity. A pleasing palette of a cream field with a sage green border evokes a calming bond between earth and greenery. The “Zir Khaki” motif, set delicately and artfully across the rug, is not a sign of the forgotten; rather, it is like a buried treasure that now emerges with renewed splendor, inviting contemplation. The columns depicted in this mihrab rug are inspired by the bas-reliefs of Persepolis. More than a decorative object, this rug feels like a sanctuary of silence and poise—a place for reflection on timeless beauty shaped by artisans’ hands. Suited to spaces seeking meaning, it narrates the Iranian spirit in all its simplicity.
