This antique handwoven rug from Dorokhsh (eastern Iran), in an all-over design with the evocative boteh (paisley) motif, measures 242 × 354 cm (7'11" × 11'7") with an area of 8.57 m² (92.25 ft²). Across the deep navy field, orderly repetitions of boteh create a continuous, rhythmic visual flow. The warm, energetic madder-red border sets a refined contrast around the field, heightening its presence. Woven in soft wool with a plied warp yarn, and with a weaving density of approximately 4,100 knots/dm², this piece offers a relatively coarse yet balanced handle suited to the region’s emphasis on durability.
