Old Handwoven Carpet, Corner Medallion Layout, Wool on Silk Warp, Isfahan, 268 × 403 cm Ref 11000153
his antique handwoven rug from Isfahan, in a medallion-and-corner design with Shah-Abbasi floral motifs by the renowned “Seirafian” brand, measures 268 × 403 cm (8'10" × 13'3") with an area of 10.81 m² (116.36 ft²). Seirafian is a respected Isfahan carpet brand; its pieces are counted among the most exquisite and popular Persian rugs, with two examples housed in Niavaran Palace and one at the United Nations. A delicate, symmetrical medallion sits on a cream field, while coordinated corner spandrels draw toward it—as if the grandeur of Isfahan’s mosques and palaces were distilled into a handwoven composition. Shah-Abbasi motifs, rendered with masterful detail, flow across the surface, the cream ground enhancing their refinement, and a warm madder-red border adding an inviting presence. Weaving density: approximately 7,300 knots/dm². Crafted with fine, soft wool pile on a natural silk warp, lending finesse, softness, and a subtle sheen to this work.
