An antique rug with a captivating mihrab design, created not only as a product of the artistry and finesse of the weavers of this ancient land but also as a mirror of their mystical worldview and cultural beliefs. This handwoven rug, measuring 140 × 195 cm (4'7" × 6'5") with an area of 2.73 m² (29.39 ft²), takes a rectangular format and presents a classic expression. At the center of the field, a bird resembling a crane or stork is depicted, either hunting or feeding a smaller bird (likely a chick). This imagery, one of the recurring themes in Iranian art, carries layered symbolic meanings. The mihrab composition of this piece, bearing the Haddad brand, combines the symbolic presence of animals with an architectural-like form, creating an intersection of mysticism, nature, and the symbols of life—as if it were a prayer rug designed for reflection, silence, and spiritual connection. Its deep navy-blue ground, framed by multicolored borders, establishes a dignified and harmonious contrast that gently guides the eye along the design. With an approximate density of 5,100 knots/dm², this rug falls between semi-fine and fine categories, a testament to the precision and patience invested in its making. The weft is woven from wool, while the warp is cotton—a common yet authentic combination in Tabriz carpet weaving, valued for providing durability, softness, and structural integrity at once.
