Old Handwoven Carpet, Corner Medallion Layout, Wool on Cotton Warp, Kerman, 313 × 408 cm Ref 11200144
This antique handwoven Kerman rug, measuring 313 × 408 cm (10'3" × 13'5") with an area of 12.78 m² (137.56 ft²), features a medallion-and-corner design inspired by symmetry and Iranian architecture, creating a poised, harmonious composition. The central medallion rests at the heart of the piece as the four corner motifs subtly advance toward the center. A vibrant madder-red field conveys energy and vitality, while the deep navy border intensifies the work’s authenticity, depth, and dignity. Floral motifs, inspired by Persian gardens, are dispersed across the surface. High-quality wool pile with a strong cotton warp—together with a weaving density of approximately 2,500 knots/dm²—produces a relatively coarse yet resilient weave. Each knot holds the touch of craftsmanship; each hue carries a gentle thought.
