Old Handwoven Carpet, Corner Medallion Layout, Wool on Cotton Warp, Mashad, 295 × 390 cm Ref 11100146
This antique handwoven rug from Mashhad, in a medallion-and-corner design featuring the distinguished “Sheikh Safi” layout and attributed to the Jalaeian brand, measures 295 × 390 cm (9'8" × 12'10") with an area of over 11.5 m² (over 123.78 ft²). The weaving density is approximately 3,300 knots/dm², indicating an orderly and durable construction. Derived from the architecture of the shrine of Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili, the design blends refined illumination and Iranian geometric harmony, imparting a contemplative, historical spirit. A dignified central medallion settles at the heart of a deep navy field, embraced symmetrically by balanced corner motifs. The navy ground continues through the borders to create pleasing visual cohesion. Soft wool pile with a natural cotton warp completes the piece.
