Machine-Made Rugs
We sell hand-knotted carpets worth six figures, and we also sell these — because they are the right answer for a lot of rooms. A rental apartment, a child's bedroom, a home office, a holiday let, or simply a room where you want the look without the commitment. There is no reason to pretend otherwise.
What you get and what you do not
You get consistency: exact sizes, repeatable colours, a piece you can replace with an identical one in three years. You get immediate availability in quantity. You get pricing that makes it reasonable to change the room later. Modern power looms produce genuinely good-looking rugs, and the polypropylene and heat-set polyester used now resist stains and fading far better than older synthetics.
What you do not get is uniqueness, natural fibre, or any prospect of resale value. A machine-made rug is a furnishing. A hand-knotted carpet is an object. Both are legitimate purchases; they are just different purchases.
Choosing well
Look at the pile density and weight rather than the price alone — a heavier rug will hold its appearance far longer. Check the backing is properly finished. And be realistic about traffic: in a busy hallway even a good machine-made rug will show wear within a few years, which is where wool becomes the better value.
