The practical alternative to a hand-knotted round. Because a power loom can be set to cut and finish a circular format, these are widely available in sizes and prices that hand weaving cannot match — which is why most round rugs in UAE homes are machine-made, and sensibly so.
Where they earn their place
Under a round dining table, where spills are likely and a synthetic pile is genuinely the better material. In a nursery or playroom. In a rental where you would rather not commit. And in any room where you want the softening effect of a circle without a significant outlay.
Sizing under a table
Table diameter plus 120 cm minimum. A 120 cm round table needs a 240 cm rug. Anything less and chairs catch on the edge every time someone stands up, which is both irritating and the fastest way to wear out the border.
What to check
On round machine-made rugs the edge finish matters more than on rectangles — a curved edge is under more stress and a poorly bound one will fray. Check the binding is dense and even. Also check the rug lies genuinely flat; circular formats can cup at the edges if the backing was applied under uneven tension. Everything in this collection has been checked for both.
