This antique Tabriz rug, measuring 165 × 220 cm (5'5" × 7'3") with an area of 3.63 m² (39.07 ft²), is not merely an artwork but a reflection of thought and literature. With the “Haddad Carpet” brand and an approximate weaving density of 5,100 knots/dm², it exemplifies the masterful fineness and exceptional precision of Tabriz weavers. Its all-over pictorial design, rendered in a polychrome palette and enclosed by a deep navy border, lends the piece a profound and noble presence. What truly distinguishes this rug is its subject: a portrayal that echoes the visage and intellectual world of Omar Khayyam— the renowned poet, philosopher, and astronomer of Nishapur—whose verses are woven into the border. Fine wool with a cotton warp ensures both softness and durability, a structure that withstands the passage of time while preserving its spirit. The motifs recall Khayyam, the poet of fate and free will, wine and transience, and the play of time. Colors, like the words of a quatrain, sit together with gentle richness, turning the carpet into a page of poetry. Some of the notable verses appearing in the rug read: Tomorrow I shall fold the banner of hypocrisy, with my white hair I will make my resolve. The measure of my life has reached seventy; if I do not rejoice in this moment, when shall I?
