This handwoven rug from Kashmar, featuring an all-over design with subterranean motifs, is an exceptional and admirable work by the Mahdiabad brand, designed by Ghorbanzadeh. It interweaves history, myth, and the heavens into a living tableau. Its dimensions are 300 × 403 cm (9'10" × 13'3"), with an area of 12.09 m² (130.14 ft²), making it suitable for salons and refined artistic spaces. The weaving density is approximately 2,500 knots/dm², reflecting craftsmanship marked by precision, finesse, and authenticity. Inspired by the historic conquest of India by Nader Shah Afshar, the piece carries an epic narrative of Iranian power, courage, and culture. Nader Shah, founder of the Afsharid dynasty, ruled Iran from 1148 to 1160 AH. A fine wool pile with a firm cotton warp ensures both softness and structural strength. What sets this rug apart are its subterranean motifs and the twelve zodiac signs masterfully depicted at the center. These elements symbolize the bond between earth and sky, history and the cosmos. A warm, variegated palette on a multicolored ground lends dynamism and splendor, while the cream border gently frames this richly detailed narrative.
