This antique Kashan all-silk carpet, featuring a medallion-and-corner design with Shah-Abbasi floral motifs, measures 303 × 430 cm (9'11" × 14'1") with an area of 13.03 m² (140.25 ft²). Woven entirely in silk, its density is approximately 7,300 knots/dm², a clear testament to finesse and mastery in weaving. The central medallion rises like a splendid sun at the heart of the piece, while the four corner spandrels cultivate garden-like arrays of tendrils and Shah-Abbasi blossoms. Brought to life with exceptional precision and the natural lustre of silk, the motifs feel animated—as if each flower were unfolding and every line and curve were voicing a note of Iranian grandeur. A cream ground, with its captivating softness, provides a serene stage for the composition, and a dignified brown border frames this imagined garden with poise. The gentle contrast between these two tones creates a pleasing sense of balance and depth, holding the viewer’s gaze within the field of the rug.
