This antique handwoven rug from Heris, in a medallion-and-corner design, is a hallmark weave of the region. It measures 312 × 443 cm (10'3" × 14'6") with an area of 13.83 m² (148.86 ft²). The design presents firm, angular geometry: a central medallion with defined angles and pleasing symmetry rests on a brilliant madder-red field, while angular, orderly corner motifs dignify the four corners. This geometric structure reflects the distinct Heris style, which seeks beauty in the clarity and strength of lines. The weaving density is approximately 1,800 knots/dm², attesting to the region’s characteristically bold yet clear and unpretentious weave. The madder-red ground imparts rich warmth and vitality, harmonizing with a deep navy border for an authentic, resonant palette. A coarse‑woven, resilient wool pile together with a strong cotton warp endows the rug with exceptional firmness and durability.
